How to Remove a Skin Tag
A skin tag is a
tiny growth that protrudes from your
skin.
While it is
non-malignant, a growth on the lower eyelid, for example,
is very noticeable. Although skin tags are
very common they are, nonetheless,
bothersome.
Most are light in
color; however, they can turn darker and become more
visibly noticed, especially under the
eyelids. In
this case, removal should be considered.
While they are
mostly removed for cosmetic purposes, skin tags can only
be excised by a doctor or certified dermatologist.
It is a
relatively simple procedure.
There are two
methods which can be used to remove these growths,
depending upon the location and type. If the growth hangs from
a stem, then cryotherapy is the most effective
approach.
Cryotherapy is the
freezing of the skin tag, then cutting it
off. Most
common areas affected are: upper eyelid, underarm, neck,
and back.
.
The other method
is called electro-surgery, which is the burning off of
the skin tag using an electric current. This surgery is called
for if the growth is attached directly to the skin, does
not have a stem, and is located under the lower eyelid.
Stitches may be required, and a local anesthetic would be
used.
Whether you choose
cryotherapy or electro-surgery, removing a skin tag is
sometimes, but not always, necessary. It largely depends upon
its size, color, and location.
As you get older,
you will no doubt discover many growths on your
body. It is
always wise to check for any skin abnormality with your
doctor, to determine whether or not it is benign or of a
more serious nature.
