How Remove Medicine From the Carpet
While these instructions are primarily for cough syrup, which often has a thick, sugary base, it will work for other medicines as well, including liquid antibiotics, and over-the-counter diarrhea medicines.
As with other spills, the first thing you should do, is blot up the excess with white paper towels, so you can tell just how much is coming up, and when there is no longer any liquid coming off the fibers.
Next, neutralize the spot by using a spray bottle and solution of 1 tbsp. of ammonia in 1/2 cup of water. Soak the spot well, but not so much that you get water into the underlay. Blot again with white paper towels to remove the moisture.
Now you'll need to "wash" it with another spray solution, this time 1/2 teaspoon of a liquid dish detergent that does not have lanolin, bleach, or other additives. Spray well, and blot with paper towels, working the solution into the fibers. Do not rub back and forth, or you'll have paper "pills" in there as well. Continue until all color or evidence of the spill is gone.
Do a clear rinse spray with plain water and blot to remove excess liquid. Spray with more water, cover with paper towel sections large enough to reach beyond the edges of moisture, and make it 6 layers thick. Place something heavy on top, and leave to dry.
