How to Remove Ticks
Learning how to remove a tick can be
tricky.
These nasty little insects mainly
reside in areas where there is grass and
shrubs.
Pets are particularly vulnerable to
ticks and, if you’re not careful, they can attach themselves
to your body as well.
Before learning how to remove a tick,
there are some important things to remember. Do not use mineral oil,
finger nail polish, Vaseline, or alcohol on the
tick.
This will invite the tick to deposit
its waste material into your skin. This waste material
contains bacteria that, if it enters the skin, can cause a
myriad of problems including Lyme disease.
The most common method to remove a tick
is to use tweezers so that the tick can be pulled straight
out. Take caution not to smash the tick as you remove it, so
as not to leave any waste material in the affected
area.
There is also another way to remove a
tick without tweezers. The tick should be rubbed
lightly in a circular motion. Rubbing the tick in one single
direction is always better. Let the tick move in a circle
for one minute, after which it will crawl outside on its
own.
If you have a dog, check frequently for
ticks especially if you take the dog on daily walks in areas
where ticks often reside. Preventing the ticks from
attaching to your body can be achieved by wearing light
cotton clothing that covers your arms and
legs.
Keep pets away from heavily wooded
areas. Before
entering the home, check the dog thoroughly to ensure he has
not been infected, and check your body as
well.
If you locate a tick on your body, you
can learn to remove the tick using either method
indicated.
