How to Remove Ivy
Removing unwanted ivy from your home can be a
daunting task.
However, here are some tips that will help you in this
endeavor.
If the vine is quite large, it is recommended that you cut it off at the
bottom.
Then after a year, it should be ready to be pulled out. In addition, when removing ivy you should cut it off from the top.
You will need the following tools: garden gloves, pruning shears, lopping shears, and a pruning saw (if
necessary).
To get rid of ivy from your house, follow these steps:
* Cut the ivy using a pruning shear.
* Scrape the side of the house to remove any dead branches and
leaves.
* Use a sander to get rid of ivy stains.
* Cut the stems of the ivy as close to the ground as
possible.
* Use herbicide on the leaves of the ivy stem, in the spring, to
virtually kill the plant.
If the ivy has grown up along the sides of your house, start from the
top and pull it off the house. This is a long and tedious
process. When you reach the bottom, follow the aforementioned
instructions.
The idea is to initially pull up as many roots as you
can. Since ivy seems to crop up every year, you will have to
constantly return to the “scene of the crime” and pull any new and old ivy you may have not seen
before. Take heart, however, it will get easier year after
year.
