How to Remove Concrete
If you are so inclined to remove the
concrete from your patio or driveway, it requires someone who is strong and who can manipulate a jackhammer or a
sledge hammer.
For example, if you are removing the concrete from your
driveway in order to replace it with grass, you will need the aforementioned tools in addition to a wheel barrel
or some type of receptacle that you can put the pieces of concrete into.
In fact, there are some people who use these pieces of
concrete to fill existing holes in those areas where they are creating new driveways or patios.
Basically, it’s a good idea to start with one block of
area at a time. If you are using a sledge hammer, ensure you are
wearing heavy duty gloves and protective glasses. Start by
hammering one block at a time. Continue to hammer away until small
pieces of concrete emerge. This makes it easier to transport them
to the container.
If you have a large area of concrete that needs to be
removed, you can rent a jackhammer. If you’ve never used one,
however, it may be worth your while to hire a professional who can do the job for you. Safety and caution should be your main concern.
There are plenty of how-to books in your local library
and/or you can consult a professional who can tell you the proper way to remove concrete. Talk to the salesperson at your local Home Depot and ask for advice as
well.
Removing concrete is not an easy job. But if you are intent on tackling it, make sure you have a strong back and
follow the appropriate guidelines when using any equipment for the first time.
