How to Remove Caulk
Caulk is usually found around the seam
of the tub in your bathroom.
As mildew and mold begin to form, the
caulk can turn a harsh yellow to brown. Frankly, it becomes an
eyesore. If you
would like to learn how to remove caulk, here are some
tips.
First, apply caulk remover to soften
the caulk. Take a utility knife with a fresh blade and slice
through the caulk that has already softened. When you begin
to slice the caulk, it should come off easily.
However, if it becomes too thick or if
the caulk accumulates in layers, a pair of needle nose
pliers will be required to pull or scrape the material
around the tub and joints.
After the caulk has been removed, apply
three parts bleach to one gallon of water to remove any mold
or soap scum from the area. This will also remove mildew
stains as well.
The next step is to scrub the area with
a brush and then rinse off the area with a clean rag and
dry.
You are now ready to reapply a fresh
new bead of tub and tile caulk that has a high concentration
of fungicide.
After this step, you can add the silicone
sealant.
