How to Remove Blue Tac
Blue tac is commonly used to hang
posters, pictures, decorations, and other light objects on walls.
However, when the blue tac is removed, stains may appear
as the oil residue from the blue tac remains.
Ideally blue tac should only be used on surfaces that are
non-porous, painted walls, vinyl, glass, or metal.
It is recommended that before you remove blue tac from the
wall, especially for items that have been up for a long time, that you soften it with the citrus remover
first. Remove it gently so as to avoid removing the paint along
with it.
Once you remove blue tac from the walls, it is recommended
that you use a citrus-based remover. Although, one website
suggested that if the stain is light enough, try using an eraser to remove it. Another website suggests that you take a small amount of blue tac and use it
to remove the existing blue tac on a wall. Another suggested
rubbing it with white bread.
Caution should also be used when removing blue tac from a
rug or carpet, as you may remove the color as well.
For blue tac residue on clothing, one recommendation is to
put the item into the freezer until it becomes hard, and then you can simply pick it off.
You can utilize these different methods to see which one
is more effective. The final result will depend on how long the
blue tac was kept on the wall and how much of the oil residue seeped into the color.
While you can easily remove the blue tac, it is ultimately the stain that will become an eyesore in which case you
may want to repaint the area.
