How to Remove a Toenail
If the toenails are too long, pain will
eventually occur.
Taking care of one’s toenails is as
natural as taking care of one’s skin. Diabetics often have to go
to a doctor to have their toenails clipped and/or
removed.
Through an illness or accident, the
toenail can turn black and there is no alternative but to
remove it.
Learning how to remove a toenail
requires that the entire nail be removed and no remnants of
the nail should remain. This can lead to an
ingrown toenail which is even more painful.
To remove a toenail safely you will
need the following tools: cotton balls, nail clippers,
tweezers, dressing, hydrogen peroxide, and water. First,
clean the toe completely. Use hydrogen peroxide and water
and with the cotton ball, gently clean the entire toenail
and toe. After applying the hydrogen peroxide, wash the toe.
Next begin to trim the nail away from
the skin. Reapply the hydrogen peroxide to clean the area.
Use tweezers to pull the nail – first to determine if it is
still fixed to the skin or it is loose enough to be
removed.
Use the nail clippers to completely
remove the nail, while all the time applying the hydrogen
peroxide.
If there is any part of the nail
remaining, use the tweezers. Apply the hydrogen
peroxide so that the area is cleansed properly, then wash
the toe with water and finally cover the toe with
bandage.
Keep in mind, however, that if the
toenail is blackened and ready to come off the process will
be easier and less painful.
If for any reason you cannot remove a
toenail, seek a professional doctor to do the job for
you.
