How to Remove a Splinter
Whether you’re working in the yard
preparing a vegetable garden, or building a bird house as a
hobby – inevitably using wood of any kind may cause that
nasty little accident – splinters.
Here are a few tips to help you learn
how to remove splinters:
Learning how to remove a splinter is
easy and does not need to be painful. While splinters can come
in a variety of sizes and shapes, it is the smallest
splinter that can cause the most pain. So how do you remove
one?
First of all, do not apply pressure or
squeeze the area where the splinter is embedded in order to
remove it. Remember that when you squeeze a sharp splinter,
it gets further embedded into the skin. And when you squeeze
a brittle splinter, it can break up into smaller pieces.
These then become more difficult to
extricate.
Gently wash the splintered area with
soap, then disinfect the area with an antiseptic solution
and pat the area dry. Take a magnifying glass and inspect
the splintered area. Look at the size of the splinter and
the angle in which it has entered the skin.
You can use a variety of methods to
pull out the splinter. Use tweezers to pull out the
splinter. Clean
the area and apply Neosporin to the affected area. Cover it
with band aid and the process is completed.
A home remedy that you can try is to
use a potato.
Slice the potato and put the yellow side of the potato slice
on the splinter. Hold it in place for a few minutes and
before you know it the splinter will come right
out.
