How to Remove Facial Hair
For some women, facial hair can be an
embarrassing occurrence even when they are relatively
young.
While many people associate the phenomenon with
aging or menopause, it does occur in women before those
life stages, and it can be a daunting prospect to get rid
of it.
Most facial hair appears on the upper lip, the chin, and
between the eyebrows.
In fact, the most common problem is the
eyebrows, which sometimes run almost straight across the
forehead. So when it comes to shaping them, it really
does require some kind of removal.
Stray hairs, such as two or three on the chin, can be plucked.
Be aware though, that repeated plucking usually encourages the
hair to grow back in thicker. It can also leave scarring, which
is more noticeable, the darker your skin tone is. Shaving is
also out, because it too encourages re-growth.
The preferred treatments are electrolysis, waxing and laser.
Depilatory creams, while suitable for legs and bikini areas are
not advisable on the face, as they can cause irritation on the
more sensitive skin.
Waxing is a temporary treatment that lasts anywhere from 3-6
weeks, depending on the rate of growth. The liquid wax is
applied to your skin, hardens and is removed, taking the hair
with it.
Electrolysis is a procedure that uses a low
level current to kill off or stop the growth of the hair
follicle. While it does last longer than waxing or
plucking, it can be painful, and must be done by a
professional, as misuse of the technique can cause skin
scarring.
It can also take many sessions, adding to the
total cost, depending on how large an area the technician
is working on.
The newest method is laser treatment. Billed as permanent hair
removal, the actual total success will depend on the skill of
the practitioner, your skin tone, and how many treatments are
used.
It is not an instant cure, and will take several
sessions to achieve the desired result. This is also the
most expensive option, so you want to check into the
background and experience of any clinic offering the
service.
