How to Get Rid of Bats
Have you ever
heard the expression, “Bats in the belfry?”
This
derogatory term has been used to define a person’s mental
condition.
However,
these nocturnal creatures are important to the
environment; they eat all manner of flying insects. They
have the capacity to enter small openings in homes,
buildings, and yes, even bell towers.
Having these
creatures in one’s home is an obvious
problem.
Here is helpful information on how to get rid of
bats.
Make sure
your home is free of any small holes or large openings
where bats can enter. Check your
attic, if you have one, to ensure vents and windows are
sealed; check rafters for any holes that bats may crawl
into; and make sure your fireplace has a screen in front
of it.
A sure way to
determine of there are bats in your home is the presence
of guano, which are bat droppings. Just as you can sense
a dead rodent by the odor it emits, so too you can detect
the odor of guano. It does carry disease, so proceed
carefully.
If possible,
try not to handle the bats on your own; if bitten, you
may be exposed to rabies. If you do locate any bats in
your home, call your local animal control
center.
Their experts can easily remove them in a safe and secure
way.
Bats are
prevalent mammals, especially in the Northeast. There are
some conservationists who build bat houses to capture
them; using them to decrease the presence of insects,
while others relocate the bats to other less populated
areas.
There is no
concerted effort to reduce their population since they
are beneficial to the environment. In any case, if you
live in an area where bats do migrate - be cautious and
ensure your home is safe and secure. If you need to get
rid of bats, follow the recommendations offered, or
contact a professional bat remover.
